You
will transfer to Kashgar by way of Kirghizstan and the Torugart
Pass. At the end of the trekking, you will return to Kashgar and
fly back to Bishkek, via Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur
Autonomous Regon, the Peoples¡¯ Republic of China. North of K2,
in the China, Xinjiang, the spectacular Karakoram peaks give way
gradually to the lower ranges of the Kun Lun and the Taklamakan
Desert. It is through this stark and beautiful territory that
you make your approach to the north side base camp for K2 at Suget
Jangal. Traveling overland from Kirghizstan arranged by the best
agency, ITMC-Tien Shan, you cross the Torugart Pass to reach the
old Silk Roud oasis town of Kashgar. After a rest day in this
remarkable place, you continue your journey through the Kun Lun
to reach the start of your week-long walk-in at Maza Dalar. Accompanied
by camels to carry your equipment, you trek beside the Yarkand
and Shaksgam rivers to the Aghil Pass (4785m.), beyond which you
have increasingly impressive views of K2 and of Broad Peak and
the Gasherbrums. With 3 days for exporation above our highest
camp, this is a fantastic opportunity to follow in the footsteps
of some of the early Himalayan explorers. Approaching the Karakoram
from the north gives new perspectives on some of the world¡¯s greatest
peaks. Eric Shipton, the great British explorer, was himself overwhelmed
by this prospect. ¡°The afternoon was fine and nothing interrupted
my view of the great amphitheatre about me. The cliffs and ridges
of K2 rose out of the glacier in one stupendous sweep to the summit
of the mountain 12,000
feet above. The sight was beyond my comprehension and I sat gazing
at it with a kind of timid fascination¡..¡± (1937 ¨C Blank on
the Map). After your trek, you will fly out of Kashgar to Urumqi,
where you have allowed time to visit the famously lovely ¡°heavenly
lake¡± of Tian Chi which nestles amongst the nearby peaks of the
Tian Shan. From Urumqi, you fly to Bishkek or Almaty to connect
with your flight back home. This is a remarkable journey and an
opportunity to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel
experience
